I remember when time was simple. Where all we needed to worry about were scraped knees or if we caught "cooties". Where math was two plus two and science was the fun stuff. Where girls didn't stab each other in the back and when you knew a boy liked you because they either pushed your or pulled your hair.
Then came middle school and things became slightly more complicated. You were given sports, your body decided to do a revamp and there was kissing and labels. Skater. Emo. Prep. Pothead. Slut. Gold-digger. And all at the age of 13.
Now kissing is more, names are ruder and life is harder. Two plus two becomes pre-cal and algebra, science becomes physics, astronomy and anatomy, and English becomes resumes and essays.
But if y'all are lucky, you have a group of people, not a very large group, but a group none the less, to stand beside you. To pick you up when you fall or get pushed down. To help fight your battles or be your support on the sidelines while you prove you're not some damsel in distress. And in that group, you have all the people you will ever need. You have the mother hen, the protective brother, the crazy one, the over-excited one, the brain, the gamer, the guitarist, and every other person you could think of. You have the shoulder, or shoulders, to cry on, the one to go to so you can get a laugh and the go-to guy for every nerdy obsession.
But if you're extremely lucky, they are the ones to knock you upside the head when you need it. And they will always be there, no matter what. They are your rock when you hit the hard place.
They're the ones who you were lucky enough for God to place in your life.
"If it scares you, it might be a good thing..."
