Goes up on Instagram ;)
2020 has been a weird year so far (i type as I sit through a Category 1 Hurricane during a pandemic). I think everyone can agree to this statement. But right on the cusp of the world going into lockdown, and after what felt like a year of planning, myself and 3 others were able to make it to Sin City.
If you are an old reader, you will know my best friend, Kaci, and I do this thing where we go be super nerds and attend Supernatural Conventions... and no, not supernatural like ghosts and stuff, like Supernatural, the TV show. We have been going for about 4 years and have traveled to New Orleans, Denver, Dallas and most recently, Las Vegas, to attend. Now before I get dragged for going to them, let me say, we never would have traveled this much to several new places without the conventions. Each year we try to go to a new city for it so we have an opportunity to explore or get to see a different place. New Orleans was our first ever convention and we saw more of the city than the convention center. Denver and Dallas were more about the actual convention. And the big whopper that is Las Vegas was a healthy mix of both.
Las Vegas is the ONLY 4 day convention and we decided to tack on an extra day for sight-seeing because while I have been to Vegas before (*insert 21st birthday photo here*), I hadn't been back since. So we were in Vegas for a total of 5 days, not including the Monday we flew out. Looking back on it, Vegas was definitely a bittersweet experience because for Kaci and I, it was to be our last BIG con (we planned on going to Dallas later in the year for one day to see friends), but also, now as I am typing, it was going to be the last time we all saw each other for the year (unless COVID decides to fix itself before 2020 is up). It was also the first time I had seen one of my best friends in person in a couple of years. Our girls trip started when Olivia flew into Austin Tuesday night and I picked her up from the airport after driving in from Corpus. After a much needed reunion (and Liv getting pulled around by the baggage carousel), I drove us to Bastrop to spend the night with Kace. We spent a couple of hours catching up, loving on Odie, and re-packing our bags before falling asleep... Only to wake up 4 hours later to get ready for Vegas!
After putting a full face of make-up for the flight, bad weather grounding the plane for an hour, and acquiring a cup of coffee for me, we flew out to Vegas Wednesday morning at 7am. Despite us arriving an hour later, which in turn made my anxiety rise because we had booked a car for the day, the first day in Vegas was the best way to start off our girls trip. We ended up picking Alex up early afternoon because she had to work the night before, so by mid-afternoon, we had our full girl group ready for Vegas adventures. An added addition to our girl group came in the form of one my best friends who I have known for 10 years.
This convention was memorable for a lot of different reasons but the main was because I got to spend a week with my absolute best friends/soul mates. I can't remember ever feeling as happy and content as I was with them. We spent a week eating really good food, spending way too much money, taking a lot of photos, surviving belly aches from laughing too hard and just being around one another. I wouldn't have wanted to spend this week any other way...
