Time to break out those flip-flops and floppy hats! It's spring break 2015. Whoop Whoop!
I, along with every other school teenager/young adult out there, am beyond excited for our week full of sun, surf and sand. The break well needed before the real work begins for us. Finals, end of semester preparation, and all the other stuff that comes along.
And although my entire Spring Break is filled with work, leaving me just two days to enjoy the (hopefully) sun, I couldn't not take this opportunity to share what I wish I was doing this spring break!
First off, seeing as how I am a South Texas gal who is lucky enough to live in the place with the beaches, the beach is the number 1 spot for anyone this week. But if you're not much a beach girl (myself included), there is this epic thing going on in Concan, Texas called Rio Frio Fest! And I am super bummed that I will not be one of the many, many, many people out there on a tube in the Frio River. Starting on March 17th, and going on until the 21st, it is basically a huge concert on the river. Plus it's out in the Texas country, so how can you say no to that? You can check out the website for more details, lodging info, and ticket prices here.
So while I’m stuck inside, snapping on bracelets to let people into the water park, I’ll be wishing that I was stuck in a tube on the Frio Rio.
Speaking of water parks! How about a family trip to Schlitterbahn while in Texas? (There is even one in Kansas City!) It’s the hottest coolest time in Texas…
Okay, that was pretty cheesy.
But it’s a pretty catchy jingle. Go check out one of the parks during the week and I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed! (Actually, don’t hold me to that… I don’t want to be sued…). Slides, wave riders, and tubes! It’s kind of going to the river but not. It is a blast though, especially if you have small children with you because it’s a little bit harder to get lost at the river than it is at Schlitterbahn, plus there are lifeguards at water parks.
And of course, if you want the free option, and can handle the sand, definitely come hang out at the beaches of North Padre Island! We may not have the waves of Hawaii or the blue see-through seas of Jamaica, but gosh darn it! We have charisma! Plus, the opportunity for a bonfire as the sun sets is always a winner in my book.
Too bad Spring Break is only a week long…
Now whether you’re stuck inside during this week of opportunities or out on the coast celebrating Spring Break in the right way, let me know down in the comments on what you do for this week of freedom. Do you work? Or go somewhere stellar? Until next time my lovelies!
This past weekend Felicia and I were incredibly lucky to have been able to get out of Corpus. And while it wasn't quite spontaneous, there were some moments that make me pause and go "Oh my gosh... Did we just do that?"
Like taking an Uber for the first time... That was insane. In our small town, I grew up driving the streets, but San Antonio I was a little scared of all the main streets because they are known for being more intense then the ones I'm used to.
Or one of the videos we filmed at the hotel was crazy as well. I will definitely posting that as soon as I edit it and make it worthy of YouTube.
What was awesome about it though was the fact that I got to spend time with my best friend without interruptions or anything else. We were able to be young adults and just have fun in San Antonio. We bonded over a fancy dinner at a restaurant that serves you hot towels after your entree, and over me holding onto her as she led us through a creepy, horror filled wax museum (she forced me to go in. Eyes were to the floor the entire time).
We did tourist-y things as well. It was actually kind of fun to be a tourist for a day just to see the city in a different light. On Friday night, we went out to a fancy dinner at Tony Roma's. It's a rib place in the Rivercenter mall, yet neither of us got ribs but it was still good. After that we just came back to our hotel and shot some videos for the channels.
Saturday was our fun-filled day though. We woke up around 9:15ish because originally Felicia wanted to take a quick shower before we went off but we ended up going down to eat our free breakfast instead (#WiFi&Waffles). After our breakfast, when we were supposed to be getting ready, we decided to watch Dan & Phil videos on YouTube because why not? And by the time we started getting ready it was about ten-thirty in the morning.
Just because I know Felicia is going mention this SOMEWHERE... Yes... She was actually ready, like hair, make-up and clothes on, before I was Saturday morning... TO BE FAIR though, it was because I had taken a shower the night before so I had to re-straighten my hair and actually do my make-up. It was probably a once-in-a-lifetime miracle that she was ready before me.
Saturday was our jam-packed day because of the fact that it was our only full-day in San Antonio. We were supposed to go to the zoo but it ended up being wayyyyyyyy too cold for that so we stuck with Ripley's Believe It or Not, the Wax Museum and decided to be tourists and went to the Alamo! Neither of us had been there in so long so we were pretty excited about it. After reliving Texas history, we decided to end the day out in a perfect way.
We called Uber and got a ride to North Star Mall. There we ate lunch and than shopped for three hours. Felicia about died walking into Lush (which I didn't think I would like, but ended up walking out with four new bath & body products), and we went to two of my favorite stores: Pink by Victoria Secret and Hollister (which we don't have in Corpus so I was super happy).
Shopping took a lot out of us, seeing as how we both didn't get to sleep until about 2 in the morning (editing videos), so we decided to just head back to our hotel and get some other videos done so we could enjoy our girls night in.
Of course with the two of us nothing ever goes to plan. Yes, we did make it back to the hotel and we did film some videos for our channels, but for the two challenges we had done, Felicia had completely forgotten to put her memory card back into the camera... Good job Felicia... And after we had ordered pizza and planned on watching Netflix and/or YouTube videos; we ended up sitting on our beds with our laptops and editing all our videos for four hours. The only time we actually moved was to watch one another's video and to give advice.
On our last day, we packed up our hotel room and said good-bye to San Antonio and traveled a little bit North to go visit Gruene Village, which is a tiny old-timey town that I fell in love with. There was a general store, several antique shops, Gruene Hall, and a restaurant that overlooked the river. While I could have stayed there for days, we had to leave to go pick up Felicia's mom, who had stayed with her other daughter in the German town of New Braunfels.
After spending a couple minutes with Felicia's sister and kids, we loaded up her mom's stuff in the trunk of my car, and began our journey back home. Not much was said for the trip back seeing as how her mom fell asleep, and Felicia was switching between editing and just zoning out.
Although the trip was only for the weekend, it was nice to leave town and just do our own thing for a while. If we wanted to go shopping then we went shopping or if we wanted to lounge around the hotel room, that's exactly what we did. All in all, it was a nice, relaxing weekend despite the cold weather.
Until next time my lovelies,
"If it scares you, it might be a good thing..."
