As the summer is just beginning for students, college and high school alike, Still Water Sports Camp have been preparing for it for several months. The long process of getting volunteers to be TLs, the Core Team, the behind the scenes teams, plus on top of that, getting all the kids who signed up paperwork filled out and ready for the week at camp started in the early months of 2015, and the staff is finally seeing all the hard work pay off.
The first camp starts off June 7th, and from there on out, it is nothing but camps galore. But then again, we wouldn’t have it any other way. I got lucky with being able to make friends with a good number of people who would be participating in either being a Tribal Leader or being a part of some other aspect with Still Water. And they were nice enough to allow me time to “interview” some of them for this post. I mean I could probably write post after post after post about Still Water, but I figured I’d take a step back and let what they say move your heart. I interviewed three members of the staff, and while I wish I could have interviewed more, my time at training and Blanco was limited. Mrs. Carla McKee (or Mama McKee as she is lovingly referred as) is the program director for the Coastal Bend area along with her husband, but her "job" during training week was to feed us, and man, is she one amazing chef. Katie Baker is a young lovely adult who has dedicated 9 years to Still Water, 3 as a camper and 6 as a staffer, and this being her 9th summer is the hospitality director. Lastly is Nate Evans, who has dedicated his entire summer this year to being the worship leader for the camps.
Katie: "Oh my gosh!" [laughs] "That's alot. One of my favorite things is the family itself you get. All the staff and people who are here. I love hanging with all the kids... It is just really encouraging to see God's presence here." Nate: "I would say the community and the sole focus of the Gospel and the presence of it here, along with the presentation of it to the kids." 2. When you think of being a director/T.L./Hospitality Director/Worship Leader, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? Mama McKee: "Joy. Happiness. A little scared because this is something new but overall, it's a blessing the Lord has given me." Katie: "Intentional. Since we only have a short amount of time with the campers, you really have to get in there fast and make an impact." Nate: "Getting out of the way. When we're in the place of worship, take out the stage and me and focus on God. The best way I can do my job is me not being noticed. It's that time when we can experience the Lord." 3. Describe Still Water in one word. [They all took a while to think of a word] Mama McKee: "Awesome." Katie: "Encouraging." Nate: "Inviting. I just think everything we do is "hey! Come on! Let's do this," the first thing the campers do when they get here is The Amazing Race, so we just want them to feel welcomed."

Cool interview. They sound so fun, and make the camp lifting. Take care, and hope to view more of your posts very soon.
